What about Planning Pipe and GDPR?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force from 25th May 2018. GDPR deals with how personal data must be processed and stored. So how does the data we supply meet these requirements?

GDPR does not prevent customers from using Planning Pipe data for direct marketing purposes. Planning Pipe customers have a legitimate interest to use Planning Pipe data for direct marketing purposes – provided of course that they themselves follow the regulations – which may include a legitimate interest assessment of their own.

We have ourselves conducted an audit of our processes to ensure we are compliant with GDPR. In particular, we have followed the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) guidance to establish our legitimate interest basis for processing and supplying the data we provide.

Our legitimate interest is specifically to enhance the sales, marketing and business processes of the construction, property, financial and allied industries by providing information which is timely and highly targeted. We believe our processes strike a balance between this legitimate interest and the interests of the individuals concerned.

It should be noted that specific and informed opt-in consent is not feasible for the data that we provide. In general consent is not required for business to business communications – however we would strongly recommend that customers using our data get advice and help with their own position.

So, in short, can you use Planning Pipe data in a post GDPR world? – Yes you can! But that’s not a substitute for ensuring your own compliance!
